Deubzer has been working with the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) and the Berlin Institute of Technology since 1997. From 1999 to 2001 he worked at the University of Tokyo in Japan where he researched the economical and ecological impacts of material bans in electronics products as stipulated in the European RoHS Directive. At Fraunhofer IZM he has been working for the European Commission on the review of the exemptions from material bans in the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive and the RoHS Directive since 2005. Otmar has also been active as an international consultant for key industry players on European legislation. Since 2008 Deubzer holds a position as a guest professor lecturing on industrial sustainability at the Technical University of Cottbus in Germany and as consultant to the SCYCLE operating unit of the UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP). His activities focus on end-of-life quality standards for e-waste and on international consulting on e-waste management.
